Pakistan responded to strong international pressure and has moved against the Taliban in a town a mere 60 miles from Islamabad. Concerns about the state unraveling are made more intense by Pakistan’s access to nuclear weapons. The US also continued its campaign of missile attacks, most recently killing five.
Tajikistan has agreed to allow US troops to be supplied in Afghanistan. This negotiation came after Kyrgyzstan sut down the only US base in Central Asia. Additional concerns about US supplies flowing to troops surround instability in Pakistan.
Eritera was warned by the US that it needed to stop supporting terrorist groups from Somalia that were further supported by Al Quaeda. Early in President Obama’s tenure, there were warnings of suicide attacks to be carried out by Africans living in the US. The US made it clear that they would not hesitate in taking action in Eriteria if attacks were linked back to the small state located on the Red Sea.
